- Arrive at the airport with sufficient time before departure. If you live in a large city like Chicago or Los Angeles, you’ll need extra time to arrive because of traffic or other reasons. I recommend trying to arrive at least two and a half hours at the airport before your flight. This accounts for check-in, security, and time to buy snacks and find your gate in the airport.
- Check-in online if possible. Check-in at the airport can sometimes take a lot of time. If you are only traveling with hand luggage, you can skip the check-in process at the airport completely if you already did it online. Check-in typically opens 24 hours before your departure time.
- Buy snacks at the airport. On flights within the US, airlines usually only serve a small snack like pretzels or cookies with one drink. This is usually all they give you for a three hour time. On low-cost airlines, you have to pay for snacks. On long-haul flights, there are usually two meals and a small snack in between. If you have time to spend, you can go to a nearby store and buy enough snacks to cover you and your family for a flight. You don’t even have to pay as much as on the plane!
